Screenwriter
Dianne Taylor is an experienced screenwriter and script editor, with a long career in advisory and assessment roles for both film and television.
Most recently, Dianne was co-creator and executive producer of the acclaimed New Zealand series After the Party (Lingo Pictures/ Luminous Beast, 2023), of which she also wrote on four out of six episodes. The series aired on ABC in 2024 and received widespread critical praise from local audiences and reviewers.
Dianne’s other credits include the features Beyond the Known World (Reservoir Films, 2017) and Apron Strings (Great Southern Television, 2008), which she co-wrote with Shuchi Kothari. The latter film was nominated at the 2009 New Zealand Film and TV Awards for Best Screenplay for a Feature Film and Best Film. It also garnered a nomination at the 2009 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, for the Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema. It was also the opening film for the West Hollywood Women's International Film & TV Showcase.
In 2011, Dianne wrote the short film Hauruki, which explores worlds colliding and a young girl forming her perspective on life. She was awarded by the NZ Writer’s Guild Swanz for Best Short Film Script, and the film was circulated in five international film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival. She was recognised again by the NZ Writer’s Guild for Best Unproduced Feature Film Script in 2014, for her work The Last Hippie Trail.
Dianne is an extremely valued voice within the New Zealand industry and has acted in many positions where she has aided in the assessment and development of projects. Across 2023 and 2022, she was the Early Development Funding Assessor and He Kauhahi Catalyst Script Assessor for the New Zealand Film Commission. Between 2014 and 2015, she also held a position on the Script to Screen Aotearoa Writer’s Lab Advisory Panel.
Currently, Dianne is developing her own original projects, including a new feature film and a new drama series.
