Cameron Creswell Welcomes Christopher Lawrence

Christopher Lawrence is a writer, broadcaster and public speaker about classical music whose career spans radio, television, print media and live concert events. He is best known in Australia for his work with ABC Classic, where the three Swoon collection CDs that evolved out of his breakfast program during the 1990s broke sales records in the Australian classical music industry, each achieving Platinum status.

Christopher was also the first presenter of ABC RN’s The Music Show in 1991, discussing recording techniques with k.d. lang; the art of singing while running uphill with Julie Andrews; and making pasta with Stéphane Grappelli (along with hundreds of other interviews). He has also conducted a series of public conversations with music legends including Victoria de los Angeles, Simone Young, Philip Glass and Stephen Sondheim.

His studio productions as an orchestral and opera recording producer have been awarded an International Emmy for Performing Arts, three ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Awards, a Churchill Fellowship, and the Editors’ Choice Award at the 1992 Cannes Classical Awards in France. The soundtrack he produced of Dame Joan Sutherland’s historic Australian opera farewell performance of Les Huguenots in 1990 was broadcast worldwide. In 1999 Christopher was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Communications by the University of Central Queensland for his career in media.

Christopher’s books include Swooning: a classical music guide to life, love, lust and other follies; Swing Symphony: another midlife adventure in the South of France and Symphony of Seduction. He has been published in the US, UK, Hungary and China.
