Theatre Round Up: Paige Rattray & Patricia Cornelius
Director Paige Rattray recently opened Into the Shimmering World by Angus Cerini at STC’s Wharf 1 Theatre to glowing reviews. Staring stage and screen legends Kerry Armstrong and Colin Friels, the production follows Ray and Floss - a farming couple who have lived off the land their entire adult lives. Through boom times and bust, they’ve been each other’s support and constant companion. But at the tail end of a once-in-a-generation drought, both are on the precipice of earth-shattering change and transformation.
“This is Cerini’s finest work, and Rattray’s, too.” ★★★★1/2 Sydney Morning Herald
“Into the Shimmering World is briskly paced yet attuned to the script’s rhythms under director Paige Rattray, who oversaw Death of a Salesman for STC in 2021… Here, Rattray draws from Friels a mesmerising performance as bush man Ray.” ★★★★ The Guardian
“A superb drama, anchored by a stunning performance from Friels – clear-eyed, powerful, and deeply affecting.” ★★★★★ Timeout
Into the Shimmering World is running at STC’s Wharf 1 Theatre till 19 May 2024.
