'No Pay? No Way!' Opens at the Drama Theatre
Marieke Hardy’s adaptation of Dario Fo and Franca Rame’s No Pay? No Way! has just landed at the Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House. The production first premiered at the Drama Theatre in 2020 to standing ovations and glowing reviews. This revival lead by Mandy McElhinney is yet again delighting audiences and critics alike.
Prices are out of control – and so is Antonia. Sick of having barely enough to pay the gas bill, she leads an uprising at a local supermarket that sees a group of angry housewives shoplift ‘til they drop. Now, with a pile of newly ‘liberated’ loot, Antonia – played by Mandy McElhinney – and her best friend Margherita embark on a ludicrous, laugh-a-minute escapade to stay three steps ahead of the law.
“This 50-year-old cost-of-living satire is perfect for today’s Australia.” ★★★★ The Guardian
“Two hours of anarchic comedy which leaves you struggling to catch your breath between laughs. Who would have thought that industrial relations, the cost of living crisis and a seering take down of capitalism could be so funny?” ★★★★1/2 Sydney Morning Herald
“The best social farce you’re likely to ever see. It’s a joy ride, a political satire, a belly-laugh and irresistible slapstick.” ★★★★★ Sydney Arts Guide
Running until 11 May 2024 at the Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House.
