Neil Armfield: 'Watershed' and 'Death of a Salesman'

Watershed: The Death of Dr Duncan presented by Opera Australia received a limited run of four performances at the Sydney Opera House from June 14 - 16 2024. In 2022, Cameron’s client Neil Armfield directed the world premiere of the oratorio by Joseph Twist and libretto by Alana Valentine & Christos Tsiolkas at the Adelaide Festival. Neil returned to direct the Sydney premiere of this powerful operatic work based on the infamous drowning of Dr George Ian Ogilvie Duncan, a gay man who died in 1972 after being thrown in Adelaide’s River Torrens by a group of men.

After the tremendous success of its Melbourne season last year, Neil Armfield’s critically acclaimed production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman has now landed at Sydney’s Theatre Royal. Produced by GWB Entertainment and Red Line Productions, the cast features Australian talent Anthony LaPaglia and Alison Whyte.

“All the elements cohere in this fine production. It’s a searing portrait of an individual torn apart by hollow dreams; a requiem for a common man.” ★★★★1/2 Sydney Morning Herald

“What sets this interpretation apart is the sense that Armfield and his company are earnestly grappling with the play, working hard to draw out the emotional truths that live within the words… And it does work, it works a treat.” ★★★★★ TimeOut

Death of a Salesman will run until 23 June 2024 at Sydney’s Theatre Royal.
