Cameron’s Welcomes to the Agency Xavier Hazard & Mehhma Malhi
Xavier Hazard (he/him) is a queer writer and lawyer with a passion for stories that hit audiences in the gut and the heart and the humerus, all at once. His writing for screen and stage explores the truth in hidden worlds, and often draws on the strange lines between queerness, masculinity, and institutions of power. He holds a Master of Fine Arts (Writing) from both NIDA and the Victorian College of the Arts and is currently working as a notetaker and script coordinator across multiple television projects with Easy Tiger, Goalpost Pictures, ABC, Netflix, Warner Bros., Stan, and Roadshow Rough Diamond.
His most recent work ALL BOYS was long listed for the 2023 Griffin Award, had an acclaimed season directed by Mehhma Malhi at KXT on Broadway in 2024 and will be developed as a series. Other recent credits include team member on FINE ART for ABC’s Fresh Blood, and producer and dramaturg for ALEX AND EVIE AND THE FOREVER FALLING RAIN at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia and on tour with Circuit West.
Mehhma Malhi (she/her) is a director focussed on cultivating empathy through the narratives and characters she presents, bringing ethical dilemmas to the forefront of her stories. Her work levels perspectives, aiming to negotiate conversations with audiences and highlight unheard stories.
Mehhma has experience in philosophy, bioethics, and journalism holding a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Politics from New York University (NYU), a Master of Science in Bioethics from Columbia University, and a MFA in Directing from NIDA. In between directing, she works in production and producing roles for theatre and film companies.
At NIDA Mehhma was awarded the Animal Logic Entertainment scholarship. Her directorial work includes ALL BOYS By Xavier Hazard (KXT on Broadway & KXT Storytellers Festival), Poof! By Lynn Nottage (Actors Centre Australia and NIDA), Ephemera By Anchuli Felicia King, Dragonfly - Peach Fur Music Video (Triple J), and as assistant director for Jessica Arthur on Kindness (NIDA).
Mehhma's accolades include Excellence in Directing KXT 2024, Dragonfly won Best Australian Music Video in the Prague Music Awards, Best Director in the LA Music Awards, and 2024 London Music Video Festival - Official Selection.
Xavier & Mehhma are working closely as creative collaborators on a number of original concepts for stage and screen, which centre Gen-Z characters and explore challenging contemporary issues through the lens of empathy.
