Screenwriter / Script Producer / Script Editor
Jane Allen is an accomplished screenwriter, script producer, and script editor with over 20 years' experience in the film and television industry. Most recently, Jane returned to write on the second seasons of Troppo (Beyond/ ABC, 2022) and Last King of the Cross (Helium/ Paramount+, 2023-), which were both released in 2024.
In 2023, Jane was a co-executive producer and writer on In Our Blood (Hoodlum Entertainment), a musical drama about Australia's response to AIDS in the 1980s for the ABC. The series was nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Miniseries in 2024 and Most Outstanding Drama at the 2023 Logie Awards. She also produced and was the lead writer for the award-winning legal drama Janet King (Screentime/ ABC, 2013-17) – the first Australian primetime drama to feature a lesbian lead character. Janet King was a spinoff of the prosecution drama Crownies (Screentime/ ABC, 2011), on which Jane produced and led the writing team. Jane also was a writer and producer on the Indigenous sci-fi ABC series Cleverman (2016-17).
Jane's other television work includes 100% Wolf: Legend of the Moonstone (ABC/ Flying Bark Productions, 2020-21); and Halifax: Retribution (Beyond Lone Hand/ Nine Network, 2020), which was nominated for a 2020 AACTA Award for Best Drama Series. She also wrote season two of The Heights (Matchbox/ ABC, 2020), The New Legends of Monkey (See-Saw Pictures/ Netflix/ ABC, 2019), and The Unlisted (Aquarius Films/ ABC, 2018) which won the 2020 Prix Jeunesse International Award for Outstanding Children's Television as well as earned a nomination at the AACTA Awards for Best Children's Television Series.
In May 2023, Jane completed the Jeff Melvoin’s Showrunner Training in Los Angeles as part of The Creators’ Initiative, a program developed by the Australian Writers Guild and Screen Australia. In the US she also worked as a script editor on the US series Hunters for Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, The Walking Dead). In 2018/19, Jane was the Australian Antarctic Division Artistic Fellow, spending three months as a summer expeditioner at Mawson Research Station where she developed a TV series about living and working in Antarctica.
