Lindsay Farris

Lindsay Farris is an Australian Māori actor, author, musician and entrepreneur. 

In feature film, Lindsay will next appear in Rossum’s Universal Robots, directed by Alex Proyas. He has most recently appeared in We’re Not Here to F*ck Spiders (Josh Reed), Charlie Says (Mary Harron) and Gods of Egypt, as well as lead roles in the feature films Observance, Parer’s War, Twists of Fate, Soul T.V. Drama, On the lurk with Roy and HG, Radio Pirates, Primal, Geography of the Hapless Heart and Bad Behaviour alongside John Jarratt, which had its American premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival and for which he won best actor at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival. 

In television, Lindsay’s US credits include Lethal Weapon (WB), Pam & Tommy (Disney), Ash Vs Evil Dead (STARZ), Mercy Street (PBS) and Alan Ball’s Virtuoso for HBO, executive produced by Elton John and David Furnish. In Australia: My Life Is Murder, Sisters, Home and Away, Winter, The Code, Rescue Special Ops, My Place, Sea Patrol, All Saints, Marking Time, Blue Water High and The Sleepover Club.

Lindsay’s short film credits include The Ground Beneath and Splintered, which both received much acclaim internationally, including a number of Best Actor awards and Best Film at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2005. Both films were contenders for the 2006 and 2010 Academy Awards.

Lindsay’s theatre credits include Batette Follies of 1939, Mojo, Noises Off, and Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness for the Sydney Theatre Company, The History Boys at the Sydney Opera House, The Little Dog Laughed and I’m Not Rappaport for Ensemble Theatre, Inside Out (CDP), The Keeper (Micah Projects), Blowing Whistles (Focus Theatre / Belvoir), Emergence (Synarcade), One in a Hundred (The Street Theatre), Seven Little Australians (New Theatre), Love of the Nightingale (NIDA), Hello Dolly (The Production Company) and a national tour with Brainstorm Productions. Lindsay has played Hamlet in two highly acclaimed productions, the NIDA Young Actors Studio in 2003 and two seasons of the Sport for Jove production in 2012 and 2013, for which he received a Sydney Theatre Award nomination for Best Actor in an Independent Theatre Production. 

As a writer, Lindsay has seen several plays through the workshop process, including Sugar Bowl, completed in 2005 and Touch in 2006. As a dramaturge, Farris has worked on a number of plays, including Growing Up and Inside Out. Lindsay is also completing his first novel, Severance: A Young Actor’s Guide to Becoming a Wanker.

As a classical pianist and burlesque performer, Lindsay has performed at clubs and venues nationally including the Sydney Opera House, Vanguard, Metro, Spanish Club and The Montalban (Hollywood).

Lindsay has previously taught at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and been a theatre lecturer at other schools nationally and dramatic events, including the NSW Riverina School’s Drama Camp, NIDA Young Actors Studio, and the NSW State Drama Ensemble. Lindsay also lectures regularly at schools and community centres on acting, drama in education and Shakespeare.

Lindsay was the founding Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre Company and Chair of the National Youth Theatre Company Foundation.
