Luke Rynderman is an exciting, new screenwriter and director with a passion for storytelling based in true events.

In 2023 Luke released his debut feature film The Speedway Murders. Produced by Ringleader Films and Southern Light Alliance, the hybrid docudrama stars Essie Randle (Apples Never Fall), Davida McKenzie (Klara and the Sun) and Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys). The film premiered at the 2023 Adelaide Film Festival and had strong support from both Screen Australia and South Australian Film Corporation. The Speedway Murders highlights the still infamous and unsolved case of the ‘Burger Chef Murders’, where four young employees were kidnapped and violently killed after a closing shift at a burger restaurant in Speedway, Indiana 1978.

Prior to focusing on writing and directing, Luke had an extensive career within Art Department, notably as a production designer and art director. His production designer credits include the feature film An Ideal Corpse (We Made a Thing Studios, 2023) and documentary Embrace Kids (dir. Taryn Brumfitt/ SLA Films, 2021), which features and was executive produced by Celeste Barber. His other notable Art Department credits include art direction on Carnifex (dir. Sean Lahiff/ Dancing Road Productions, 2021), Art Department Coordinator on Aftertaste Season 2 (Closer Productions/ ABC, 2022) and Senior Buyer on Netflix’s Clickbait (Matchbox Pictures/ Tony Ayres Productions, 2020).

Luke has a Masters in Screenwriting from VCA School of Film and Television, and prior graduated with First Class Honours in Graphic Design from Swinburne University. He has worked previously as an art director for several of Australia’s leading graphic design firms on major advertising campaigns for fashion and arts clients such as Vogue Magazine, The Australian Ballet and the Melbourne International Fashion Festival.

He is currently developing a slate of projects including two features: Dearly Departed, which centres around a dead celebrity vlogger, and Boutique Vixens, which has received development funding from Screen Victoria.
