Roland Gallois is a film and documentary editor with over 20 years’ experience.
His credits include See Saw Pictures’ Slow West (dir. John McLean/ SeeSaw Films, 2015) starring Michael Fassbender and Ben Mendelsohn; Porchlight Films’ The Hunter (dir. Daniel Nettheim, 2011) starring Willem Dafoe; and the award-winning Samson And Delilah (dir. Warwick Thornton/ CAAMA Productions, 2009), which won the ‘Camera D’Or’ prize at the Cannes film festival. Roland’s creative collaboration with Warwick Thornton has also included the critically acclaimed documentary series Art & Soul (2010) and Darkside (2013).
Roland’s documentary credits include the Ian Thorpe documentary The Swimmer(dir. Gregor Jordan, 2012), the Jane Campion story, Working With Jane (dir. Paola Morabito, 2009), Painting Light In A Dark World (dir. Sascha Ettinger-Epstein, 2003) for which he won an AFI/AACTA Award and, most recently, the feature documentary Deep Water (dir. Amanda Blue, 2016).
Roland has been the head of the Editing discipline at AFTRS (Australian Film Television Radio School) for a number of years. Roland returned to editing long-from narrative in 2021, editing the feature omnibus we Are Still Here (Cook Nga Pou Whenua) for No Coincidence Media. The film will weave together eight stories from first nations filmmakers, both Australian and New Zealand and was the Opening Night Film for the 2022 edition of the Sydney Film Festival.
Most recently, Roland edited the feature film The Windcatcher for Stan. Windcatcher follows the unlikely friendship between Percy Boy, newcomer Keithy Cobb and the spirited Daisy Hawkins, as they band together to take the local school sports day title from a group of grade five bullies. Windcatcher premieres March 28, only on Stan.
