‘On the Ropes’ Receives Wave of Acclaim
On the Ropes premiered last Wednesday to widespread critical and audience acclaim. The four-part drama series was directed entirely by Shannon Murphy and the pilot was penned by Tamara Asmar.
The premiere was The Australian’s pick of the week, TV Tonight gave the series five stars and Who Magazine and The Sydney Morning Herald both gave the series four and a half stars. The Sydney Morning Hearld’s Bridget McManus wrote, “Raw and brilliant, this speaks to Australia right now."
Graem Blundell from The Australian wrote, "On the Ropes is a story of female rebelliousness that in its robust and entertaining way confronts gender discrimination and the challenges faced by displaced immigrant families, especially their children fast assimilating to Australian life."
