Critical Acclaim for Marden Dean and Elizabeth Mary Moore’s work on ‘The Gloaming’
The Stan original series, The Gloaming, which debuted on the streaming platform on New Year’s Day, has received critical and audience acclaim, with many singling out the high production values achieved by Cameron’s clients, Director of Photography Marden Dean and Production Designer Elizabeth Mary Moore.
Examiner calls the series a “deliciously creepy tale” that follows a murder investigation which begins when an unidentified woman is found brutally murdered and evidence discovered at the scene links to a 20-year-old unsolved crime. What begins as a routine investigation exposes something more insidious, as political corruption and shady business dealings intertwine with sinister crimes and occult practices.
“Take a bow, Marden Dean: the show’s gimlet-eyed cinematographer,” writes The Guardian’s, Luke Buckmaster. His sentiment is echoed by TV Tonight’s David Knox who also praises Marden’s photography, “Director of Photography Marden Dean crafts an atmospheric palette of blues, greens and greys.”
Elizabeth Mary Moore helped achieve the series’ creepy look and occult undertones with her production design, perfectly blending Tasmania’s natural surroundings with her design flourishes and sets.
