Better Man, Went Up The Hill and The Deb set to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival

Congratulations to Oliver Cole, Dany Cooper, Sherree Phillips and Meg Washington on their respective works being announced as part of the line up for this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Better Man is the much-anticipated musical, fantasy biopic about British singer Robbie Williams, which chronicles his rise to fame and stars the icon himself. The film is written by Oliver Cole, Simon Gleeson and Michael Gracey, with Michael also directing. This will be the Canadian premiere for the film, with its global theatrical release scheduled for January 17th, 2025.

Australian and New Zealand co-production, Went Up The Hill (dir. Samuel Van Grinsven) will be having its World Premiere at TIFF. Starring Dacre Montgomery and Vicky Krieps, the story follows Jack who travels to New Zealand for the funeral of his mother who abandoned him as a child. The feature was edited by Dany Cooper and production designed by Sherree Phillips.

Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut, The Deb, has been selected as the closing film for the festival, which will act as its World Premiere. Composer Meg Washington holds Music by, Executive Producer and shares Story by and Lyrics credits. Centering around the small-town, ‘aussie’ tradition of the debutante ball, The Deb follows lovable farm girl and high school outcast Taylah Simpkins, who is certain the upcoming deb is her one chance to redefine herself.
