David Williamson's ARIA Opens at the Ensemble
David Williamson’s new comedy ARIA recently opened at the Ensemble Theatre. Directed by Janine Watson and starring Tracy Mann, this production is a hilarious night out and is selling fast!
A symphony of discord unfolds at Monique’s annual family gathering, celebrating her three beloved sons’ birthdays. While Monique’s adoration for her boys knows no bounds, disdain for their wives is palpable. Festivities crescendo and Monique takes the spotlight with a performance of a renowned opera aria, a poignant reminder of the dreams she sacrificed to raise her brood. In her mind, she was destined for the illustrious stages of La Scala, the Met and Covent Garden. But beneath the facade of familial harmony, dissonance brews. Have the long-suffering wives reached their boiling point?
“It’s great material: Williamson is to be congratulated for writing four chunky and playful female roles which…offer the actors a rare platform to let rip.” ★★★1/2 Sydney Morning Herald
“This latest play from David Williamson, who, with nothing left to prove, proves himself to still be a master of the well written play.” Australian Stage
“There is nothing like “a new Williamson” to set a theatre’s box office alight and Aria, David Williamson’s latest, is no exception.” ★★★★ Stage Noise
