Congrats to playwrights Lewis Treston and Michael Costi on the openings of their plays 'In Real Life' and 'Reboot'
Lewis Treston’s new play In Real Life premiered at La Boite Theatre in Brisbane this week. The play is directed by Lewis’ long time collaborator Sanja Simic. Simic also directed Lewis previous play An Ideal Husband which was a smash hit for La Boite in 2022.
In Real LIfe follows Alexei (Will Bartolo) a gay 17-year-old cosplayer with a mild Disney Princess obsession, a TV celebrity best friend and an upcoming first date with a shy guy he met online. IRL is fairytale meets fanfiction in the quest for ‘happily ever after’. It is a fierce and funny reflection of what it means to be a teenager searching for friendship, love and acceptance and trying to find your community.

Also opening this week is Michael Costi’s Reboot for ATYP at the Rebel Theatre. Reboot was the winner of the ATYP Foundation Commission (cast aged 10-13 years) in 2022.
Reboot is a comedic satire that follows a group of tech-obsessed teenagers, including a social media influencer, a hacker and a gamer, who enter Camp Reboot, a special new Summer Camp designed to detox kids from all forms of technology. As the campers embark on a tech-free adventure, things are not quite as they seem.
